Richie Tulloch
An interview with the Wolf Chief....
- So Richie, how did the Wolfpack 7s come about?
* Well, I'm a huge rugby fan and having been to other 7s tournaments I supported the charity teams as everyone wants them to win really as it's for a good cause and not their own backpocket. Watching the Help for Heroes 7s team at Twickenham was my main inspiration really, however i wanted to help a range of charities not only one, so the decision came to start the Wolfpack 7s in August 2009 and to support one charity per season and from there it all started.
- How much support have you had throughout the Wolfpack 7s?
* Alot! Running a 7s team is by no means easy. Luckily I have some terrific friends and collegues who helped me throughout. I actually wrote about them in the news feed around Christmas, it's always presumed a team functions with players, however the backroom staff are just as important. Any good player appreciates what the staff do from physio to marketing to photography. Long may it continue as we're always looking for support and welcome anyone who wants to make a contribution.
- What's your proudest Wolfpack 7s moment?
* A mixture of two I think. Winning a trophy in our first tournament (Windsor 7s) was always a nice start. But seeing the people involved with the Wolfpack 7s form a bond between eachother was even better. I appreciate players & staff bond over time, however when all the players are there for a cause and believe in it, it's difficult to comprehend as their motivation and drive are inspirational. Quoting someone far more clever than myself; "10 mercenaries are not worth 1 man if that man believes in what he is doing."
- What can we expect from the Wolfpack 7s in 2010/2011?
* A stronger squad, dynamic backroom staff, further support for our charity & to maintain our standard at rugby socials (If you saw us at Bournemouth 7s you'd understand).
- So what are the Wolfpack 7s concentrating on at this very moment?
* Lots!! There's so much to do at the moment it's a bit crazy. At the moment our backroom team are sorting: Medical supplies, team sponsorship, rugby kit, supporters kit, tournament entries, speaking to pro/celeb rugby players, welcoming new Wolfpack 7s players, organising our marketing/PR & sorting out every fans fav, the Wolfbabes.
- Busy then! Any news on what the Wolfbabes are upto?
* Well, we have about finalised it down to 8 girls asking to be Wolfbabes. At HQ we're currently unsure of what to do with the girls so we posted a survey on the website home page. Vote for what you want and we'll deliver! The girls are more than up for it. Infact we may have to have another photoshoot day for all the girls that didn't make it!
- What can fans of the Wolfpack 7s do to support you at tournaments?
* Firstly, be loud and proud. Secondly, either wear our colours (White, green & black) or wear one of our new polo shirts; black for men, white for girls. Thirdly, spread the word of the Wolfpack 7s. Be proud to support the pack as we are honoured to represent charities and represent our fans needs. An example of that was our entertaining methods of scoring tries and celebrations & our antics after the tournament in Bournemouth, arguably the most social team there!
- Well thanks for your time Richie and best of luck!
* Always a pleasure, if anyone has any questions post them below and i'll answer (-:
