 Burnham Ramblers Vs Writtle FC.

Friendly under floodlights 23-11-10.

Originally intended as an integrated match between our first team and reserves Vs Burnham’s first team and reserves, however the night before the game we were informed that Burnham were going to field their first team. Phil Cross after hearing that made the decision to only take who he considered to be our ‘strongest players’ so as not to be embarrassed by a defeat with a huge score line against us, which he felt, would deflate our squad on what was supposed to be a fun evening. As a result our Ryan East (who recently joined Burnham) was allowed to play for us in the second half, a decision Burnham must regret now as he made a couple of breath taking saves to deny Burnham getting back into the game.  As it happens it seems that we were worrying unnecessarily, other than the first fifteen minutes we were the better team. Every player upped their game and worked hard to grind out a 3-1 victory over Burnham, with two goals coming from Dane Nelson and a penalty finished by Joe Nathanson. Sausage, chips and larger ended a victorious evening for Writtle F.C., it was a delight to see Eric’s face after the match, he was clearly proud of everyone involved in Writtle’s display tonight.

Writtle Vs Sungate F.C

New manager Andy Dunsmuir-Watts seems to have turned things around after only two weeks in charge! Writtle turned out today against Sungate F.C., a team two leagues above us. Spirits were high pre-match in the changing room with a more relaxed atmosphere, from kick off the players were playing with a new found confidence, without the fear of being criticised if they make a mistake. Both teams were up for it today playing with grit and determination, with Writtle scoring first courtesy of Joe Nathanson, Sungate managed to equalise and it was game on! The referee struggled to keep control of the game as passions ran high, a free kick from Ben Cross in the second half from around 30 yards out skimmed the underside of the bar and ended up in the back of the net, Sungate did try and respond but Writtle dug in not only defending but still trying to get forward when the opportunity arose. Sungate appealed for a penalty in the last minutes of the game claiming their player was taken out by our keeper, but Danny had made an outstanding save committing his whole self to the challenge and getting his hand to the ball before colliding with their player.

The game finished 2 –1 to Writtle and celebrations continued after in the bar, we even had food provided to complete the occasion (only because the vets were thought to be at home, but were away). A great afternoon and smiles all round for a change.
