SPORTIVE EVENT REGULATIONS

 

Rules of entry and participation

1) Participants will be responsible for the roadworthiness of their own cycle.
2) Riders will be set off in groups of 20 riders (or less) at two minute (or more) intervals.
3)  The event is run in accordance with BC rules (see below) in addition to all other rules.
4) No bicycle, tandem or other machine, conventional or otherwise, is permitted to have unconventional handlebars including triathlon bars, aero bars, clip-ons, prayer bars, and cow bars. Neither is Spinachi type bars permitted. However, ATB bar ends are permitted on mountain bikes.
5) You must obey all Highway Code Rules. You are requested to ride in single file where appropriate and no more than 2 abreast at any time. Please be aware of your fellow cyclists and other traffic. Please indicate your intention to stop or change direction.
6) There are public toilet facilities at the start, finish and on/near the route. Participants are reminded to only use these facilities and not to relieve themselves in public.
7) You may not deviate from the official route. From start to finish there will be signage marking the route
8) It is the responsibility of each participant to take the correct course. Participants are required to carry the traditional map provided
9) We strongly suggest all participants wear a safety-approved cycling helmet. We recommend cycle helmets complying with ANSI Z90/4 or SNELL standards Helmets are compulsary for participants under 18yrs of age
10) You may not use your mobile phone while riding. You must stop at the side of the road if you need to make or receive a call.
11) Bourne Wheelers reserves the right to terminate an individual's ride on health and safety grounds. Rides will only be postponed, re-routed or stopped for reasons of safety. Entry fees, however, are not refundable. Entrants may not transfer or defer their entry.

12). Riders should  take enough food and fluid with them for the ride
13) No participant (other than those on the rear of tandems) may take food or drink from anyone whilst on the move. If you need food or drink, you must stop to receive it.
14) Other than those which may be provided Bourne Wheelers, mobile support vehicles in the form of cars or motorbikes are strictly forbidden. You may however receive outside support from a stationary vehicle any such vehicle must not interfere with the progress of the riders.
15) You must complete the course within the allocated time to be classified as a finisher.
16) You must be 16 years of age on the day of the ride to participate (under 18's must have the consent of a parent or guardian and be accompanied by a nominated adult at all times whilst on the ride).
 
REGULATIONS FOR BC CYCLING FOR ALL (CYCLO-SPORTIVE/TOURIST) EVENTS
1 These Events will be known as Cycling for All events. All paperwork produced will state ‘ Under British Cycling Cyclo-Sportive/Tourist Regulations.
2 Every Event will carry the BCF Event Insurance (on payment of the appropriate fee by the organiser) which will cover the club, the promoter, other officers of the club, the event officials and all participants for the duration of the event against any claims from a third party.
3 Participants will be responsible for the roadworthiness of their own cycle.
4 Groups of participants on the road may not be of more than 20 riders. These groups must start a minimum of two minutes apart. All participants will at all times obey the laws of the road. Failure to do so will result in automatic disqualification from the event.
5 The organiser will ensure that the course is checked within 48 hours prior to the event and any danger points advised to each participant on the day. A Risk Assessment of the event must be completed for the proposed route.
6 The organiser shall wherever possible select a route that is low in traffic volumes and away from major towns. These routes should be attractive to the participant and be designed to suit their level of competence. When choosing a suitable route consideration should be given to finding a hill early in the event to alleviate the possibility of bunches forming that are greater than twenty riders. The use of larger main roads close to the start can achieve the same objective.
7 Where possible route markers will be used to identify the route to be taken. However it is the responsibility of each participant to take the correct course.
8 Controls on the route will be set up at the farthest points of the course to reduce claims of riders not covering the correct route. At each control the participant will have the control card/transponder marked to show the time of arrival.
9 No accompanying vehicles are allowed to follow riders.
10 There will be no list published which indicates a finishing position or time other than which standard was achieved by which riders. An alphabetical list of finishers and times is a preferred format.
11 The wearing of Hard Shell Style Helmets shall be compulsory for junior and youth riders. Senior riders are encouraged to do the same.
12 All participants under the age of 18 shall have had a consent form completed by their parent/guardian.
13 It is advised that all riders must carry a form of identification showing their name, address and contact details of person to be advised in the eventuality cases of an accident. It is also advised that all participants carry enough food, drink, money and extra clothing to complete the ride being under taken, taking into account the route and possible adverse weather conditions.
14 The organiser has the option to take entries on the line as well in advance. An increase in the entry fee may be charged for this privilege at the discretion of the organiser.
15 The organiser is encouraged to supply mechanical or refreshment support services to participants.
16 Organisers are encouraged to advise the local police station(s) in writing of the existence of the event, giving details of the route, approximate timings and numbers involved. A copy of these regulations should also be enclosed.
17 The organisation shall provide adequate changing and toilet facilities for the number of participants expected.
18 Any complaints with regard to the event must be made to the organiser within 48 hours of the promotion.
19 Promoters are given authority to ensure that the above regulations in respect of rider participation are enforced. In cases where the organiser fails to comply with any of the above regulations he and/or the promoting club may be charged with conduct prejudicial to the good order of the sport.
21) Upon signing-on participants may be issued with a transponder, number, fixing hardware and fixing instructions.
