History
History of Colchester United Ladies Football Club

We were founded in 1992 as the Colchester Royals and we became affiliated to Colchester United FC in 1998, there are two Senior Teams who play their football in the South East Combination League and South East Combination League reserve section.  We have four Centre of Excellence teams from U10 to U16 and a Female Football Academy based at the Thurstable School & Sports College.

The ladies club is run by the Colchester United Community Sports Trust, which has charitable status. A committee is made up of employees of the Community Sports Trust and other dedicated volunteers. The Centre of Excellence and the Female Football Academy at the Thurstable School & Sports College are also run by the Colchester United Community Sports Trust.

The Centre of Excellence is now going into it's 11th year and the Female Football Academy is into its 5th year, the talented youngsters from the under 16's and the academy can also be selected to play for the senior teams and a new Girls Development Centre was launched in 2005 to nurture young girls from 4 years old upwards and feed into the Centre of Excellence squads from under 10 level.

The senior teams enjoyed a fantastic 2004/2005 season winning the Eastern Region Premier League and achieved promotion through the playoff system to the South East Combination League as well as reaching the League Cup final. The Essex County side enjoyed their best season ever and finished runners up in the Essex County League.  In the first year back at South East Combination Level, the club achieved their highest league position to date and finished a very creditable fourth place.  This was coupled with the a great F.A. Cup run where the team reached the 4th Round.

Following further promotion the First Team made their way into the FA Premier League South where in their first season they finished a very credible 7th. They will not be satisfied with that however and now look to push on into the National Premier League.

We also have our own Ladies page on the Colchester United website, with regular statistics, sponsorship details and our pre and post match reports shown under the main Breaking news section each week, this is kept up to date by Web Editor Matt Hudson.

The men's club are very supportive of the ladies set up and Chief Executive Marie Partner is also patron of the ladies club.

The majority of the Ladies first team are members of the Colchester United Supporters Association, and receive fantastic support from the CUSA and Colchester Utd fans alike at games and Club functions.
