The U16 girls’ half term ended with a 3-2 victory over their rivals, Norwich . After 20 minutes Norwich scored a fantastic strike from 30 yards. Colchester equalised very quickly with a similarly great strike from Flo Gamby. After Half time the Us came out pumped up and thoroughly deserved the penalty awarded for hand-ball in the area, from a cross by Hayley West.Flo stepped up to take the penalty and very calmly put it away to make it 2-1. Colchester pressed for another 20 minutes, with a good partnership up front from Gemma Codling and Eden Marsh, but to no avail. Norwich then scored a goal completely against the run of play to draw the scores level again. Colchester dug in for the last 15 minutes and their continued pressure was finally rewarded with the winning goal scored by Gemma Codling, an U14 playing up a year.

It was an all round great team performance from a much depleted side – relying heavily on every member not on crutches!
