The Club was founded in 1923

The Men's Section  play in four different leagues viz: North West Durham Saturday League, North West Durham Wednesday League, Durham and District Saturday League and South Tyneside Friday League      (Ladies can also play in these Leagues)

The Veterans play in the Pelton Fell District Bowls League (Mondays)

The Ladies play in the following leagues: Durham Central League (Tuesdays),  Houghton Ladies League (Thursdays) and  Winship League (Fridays)

All sections hold Section Competitions

The Veterans have an internal Veterans' League on a Wednesday afternoon.

The Club enters the National Two Fours Competition

The Club holds two Open Competitions. The Men's Open Competition (in which ladies can also play) is held on the Sunday and Monday of the Spring Bank Holiday. The Invitation Fours Competition is held on the first Sunday of June each year.The Ladies' Open is held on the first Sunday in July. All competitions are run on a 'Round Robin' basis and are licensed through Bowls England.

There is Short Mat Bowling and Carpet Bowling available during Winter months (October to March)
