Pendragons snatch Draw from the Jaws of Victory

Penarth Pendragons snatched a draw from the Jaws of Victory on Wednesday night at a balmy Dinas Powys piste.

With Scott replacing the studious Jesse who is preparing for his exams in the Pendragons team, the hosts got off to the best possible start against their visitors from Wenvoe.

Andrew and Dan claimed the first points of the night with a 13-10 win over Reg Brice and Mike Coleman and Scott and Jean-Yves followed that up with a 13-11 win over Dai Cannon and Gill French.

The second matches saw Andrew and Dan (pictured) race to a 4-0 lead against Dai and Gill and despite being 5-4 down after two more ends, they then led 12-5 with two shots to win the match. Neither were taken by Andrew and this gave the visitors hope. Nerves seemed to play a part and the more-experienced Dai and Gill clawed their way back in four more ends to snatch a 13-12 victory.

Across the piste and with the sun having set and the light dropping, Scott and Jean-Yves led their opponents, but also failed to cross the finish line first and lost by 13-11, which confirmed the draw.

In Division 2, the Barndancers beat the Predators 4-0 with a combined score of 52-41.

Double defeat at the Monkstone

The Penarth Pendragons and the Penarth Predators both endured 3-1 defeats in Penylan on Wednesday evening against Monkstone Marauders and Monkstone Monarchs respectively.

In Division 1, the Pendragons who were without captain John-Yves were 1-1 at the interval with Dan and Andrew winning their opener; 13-10 but Scott and Jesse were defeated by the same scoreline.

In another two close games, which could have gone either way, it was the hosts' who prevailed mainly due to their familiarity with the piste, which was certainly an advantage.

In Division 2; the Predators were without the Spooners so John, Celia, Hugh and Lynda made up the quartet on the night. They trailed 2-0 at the break with 13-8 and 13-6 defeats, but Lynda and John won their second game to salvage some pride on a disappointing night for the club.

Panthers beaten By Barndancers

The Penarth Panthers were beaten on Tuesday evening at the Barn in Llantrisant by the Barndancers in Division 2.

The Panthers kindly agreed to bring the fixture forward by 24 hours at the request of the home side who had problems with availability on Wednesday and this certainly favoured the hosts who named a strong team.

The Panthers team of Laurent, Valerie, Simone and Tony were beaten 3-1 on the night by their hosts who consisted of Kath and John Attfield and Trudy and Mat.

The Panthers were down 2-0 at the break with 13-1 and 13-9 defeats, but clawed one match back after the turnaround with a 13-6 win, but another defeat of 13-7 ensured a first defeat of the season.
