Lynsey Davison
Where better to start than our coach. Hope you don't mind Lynsey! This is an interview from a few years ago. How did you start playing tennis? I started playing at 9 years old at the local club because my sister played.
What is your best tennis moment? Getting my senior world ranking in the top 900.
If you didn’t play tennis what would you like to do? I would do something with my history degree like marketing or public relations.
Do you collect anything as you travel round the world? Clothes, I like to buy clothes anywhere!
Which tennis player do you most admire and why? Martina Hingis, I love her variety of shot.
Are there any myths you would like to dispel about the pro tour? That it’s glamorous. There is so much travelling and waiting, and some of the places you stay are not great.
What do you like least and most about playing tennis? I hate the waiting round to sign in and to play, I feel like I’m wasting so much time.
What 5 words would you use to describe the life of a British tennis player? Tough, Hectic, Rewarding, Expensive
With the benefit of hindsight, is there anything you would do differently for your tennis? I can’t say if I had gone full time earlier because I chose to do my education and I feel like for me that was the right choice. I enjoy my tennis so much more now because I know I have my degree to fall back on.
Do you have any comments about the state of women’s tennis today? It’s tougher and extremely competitive. There are so many good players out there
Do you have a favourite quote? Learn from your errors, don’t dwell in the past
