Body type diets
|
| |
These are based on the premise that the physical characteristics with which we are born can help determine the best method for weight loss. One of the best-known diets to takethis approach is Ayurveda, which means 'the science of life' in Sanskrit.
Ayurveda:
According to traditional Ayurvedic teachings, there are three main body types - Kapha, Pitta and Vata -and six types of taste: astringent, bitter, pungent, salty, sour and sweet. Eating the right combinations of foods and flavors for your body type, and doing the right kind of exercise can improve your health and wellbeing. A typical day following Ayurvedic principles will consist of no breakfast, a large lunch and a smaller evening meal. The foods that are recommended for weight loss for all body types include grilled chicken and fish, soy protein, whole grains and vegetables.
Blood group diets: These are an alternative option and are based on the idea that different blood groups are more suited to digesting certain nutrients than others. Since the bloodstream is the main carrier of nutrients through the body, eating the wrong kind of foods for an individual blood group can cause weight gain and illness; eating the right kind can result in weight loss and improved general health. A specific diet is prescribed for each blood group, as well as an exercise program: type 0 slimmers for instance are advised to have no wheat or grains and to take aerobic exercise; type B slimmers are not allowed to eat chicken or pork and they should play tennis or team sports.
