New ground and clubhouse takes shape

The new green was laid early in the year to enable it to establish itself in preparation for the new season in 2012.

For a short period it looked healthy and offered us a potentially great bowling surface - but then the drought hit - and without rain for weeks and weeks the grass slowly turned white and scorched. Just as we were getting desperate, the retained fire station in Moreton-in-Marsh stepped in and began the huge task of watering the green, preventing it from giving up completely.

Because of their support, the green survived the prolonged drought and has recovered sufficiently to look more like the green rinks we usually play on. The members offer their gratitude and thanks to the retained fire crews.  (Maybe they will come round to take a look and have a go at playing bowls with us next season!)

Open Day May 2011

After a long period of weather perfect for playing bowls, the final Open Day at the Hospital Road Club was held on an overcast but dry day with a very chilly wind. The green was in perfect condition, and undeterred by the weather, the members turned out in force to welcome people into the club for a taster session.

Many people responded to the Open Day invitation and were shown the rudiments of the game by the Moreton coaches and tried their hand at bowling. Several showed real enthusiasm and promise, and over half of those that attended for the first time arranged to come back to the club for extra coaching sessions, and hopefully to join us during the season.
